Drawing Porter is a batch print and export tool for Autodesk® Inventor®. What makes it unique is that its Assembly focussed or based and that it will determine which drawings and parts are relevant based on the single assembly file you select.
So if you select your GA for instance, the app will automatically know which parts and drawings form part of that design. You can then batch print or export your drawings and/or models to various formats including PDF. DWG, SAT and STEP.
Note: This app uses a custom installer and not the Autodesk App Store standard installer.

I love the idea of the aplication and I can see how it makes life easier.
I'd just like to be able to export .idw (Inventor drawing file) to .dxf. (I can't find a way to do this if it is possible)
It seems to me that it can only export .dwg to .dxf and not .idw to .dxf.
Also would be nice to be able to to somehow link a list, let's say an Excel list where all the drawings are that I wish to print in order as per the list, top to bottom or something like that.
Thanks either way, still a cool application.
Much more useful than the outdated program included with Inventor 2024 (task scheduling).
The export starting from the idw file recognizes the model states and I obtain a correct step file.
Congratulations, great work!
It would've been really good if the converted files stored in the same folder as the idw / dwg files browsed from.
For future is beter to have option to export automatically pdf and dwg file in the same folder where the idw file are placed.
Hello, thanks for this great app!! A noticeable correction would be to export assemblies to step files also
Exporting and multiple drawings is made easy with this app. after setup all you do is select your IDW files and press print or export. it saves me so much time and effort as i often have around 10 drawings to export to pdf and dwg, and before that i like to print and check them. this app makes printing them all a 1 click operation and then export is just 1 more click. cant recommend enough, half my office already uses it.
Hello,
A must have application for Autodesk Inventor, much better than the task scheduler that comes built in.
I wanted to make a proposal for the following versions, in the options panel, if I select pdf printing, dwg and dxf creation, along with stp format. When generating the files the application, can it generate the folders, pdf, dwg,dxf and stp and insert the files of each type in the folders?
Thank you very much
As far as I coudl tell it will default to front to back printing if your printer is able. Personally I need one side printing.
This is a very handy tool since Inventor doesn't remember where you want to save PDF's. Thanks for this!
Thanks for the great review!
Is it posiable to print a3 or can app seperate a4 to a3 ?
Programm is still not working with Inventor 2024 for export dxf and pdf files. Idw-files are found, can be printed. Export to dxf and pdf does not work.
Hi please contact me with the provided email address in the app.
good app, i would like to suggest a possible improvement
multicore processing:
i notice the app when processing start holds 1 Inventor, so basically it works as single core. it would be nice to split the work into multiple inventor processes, if you have 8cores it will open 8 inventor processes and split the work.
Thank you. Thanks for the suggestion also.
Such a easy tool to use and so effective. Thank you
Thank you.
When can we have the Inventor 2024 compatibility update?
Should honestly be a feature in the official release already.
Update: It'd be nice if you could rearrange drawings in the export queue, or at least a sort feature.
Thanks for the great review!
Thank you, this is a very useful app.
Hi Daniel thanks for the great review!
- It should allow to make the window bigger or let us read the total path for each dwg in order to know each one to select to be exported or deleted (home window).
- Same thing for the Printer selection combobox. I cant read the entire description, not allowing me to read/select the printer I want to select (options menu window).
Thanks for the feedback. We will look at improving the interface to cater for that.
Great application, saves a lot of time when converting a large number of drawings to pdf. However, i don't understand how to export to dwg. It says "select DWG export INI file - (select the export settings INI file to be used when exporting dwg files. This file can be created using Inventor's export options dialogue". Please help and provide more detailed instructions if possible. Thank you in advance!
Thank you for the great rating. Please email me: ivtools@mgfx.co.za
Is there a way to have the dxf and dwf files exported as well? I have several clients that use those and not dwg.
Good app! But can you add sort list of drawing by revision number or custom iproperties. Thanks.
The program saves a lot of time. However that time saved is wasted when deleting the "_ [1]" extensions on the step files. It's getting really annoying especially when the whole project is exported and later on we need to change some things on a file, in that case the inventor exported file name differs from the drawing porter version and sadly Edgecam can't pair the mismatching file names to the CNC program.
The default step and pdf name should match the inventor .ipt name. Also there could be an option to set a different file naming default for others who don't use the inventor names.
Please email me: ivtools@mgfx.co.za
Works very easy and good! The only thing i noticed is that it is quite slow in 2021, that should be improved.
When will the 2022 version be compatible?
Hellò; just a little trick to get program go faster: after put idw in DP window and start process open INV2021 in a window. While program is running just resize INV2021 window with the mouse.. process will go ahead each resizing... I don't know why it works but it works... ;-)
Yes it works faster, thanks! Great tool, only i noticed the software can plot an old image of the drawing (when part had been renamed) so be carefull!
It would be great if drawing porter could give you an option to add the revision to the drawing number such as -r1.
Our app AutoDRAW can do that.
It works great and saved me a lot of time!
It would be a big plus if it could convert to DXF format too!
Only prints to a4 cant see a size option for in the settings?
I HAVE A SAME PROBLEM
Thanks for this amazing app, it saves so much time compared to opening files and exporting.
One thing I'd like to see is 'find all' dwg/idw from a directory, including sub folders. We uses a lot of folders/subfolders to keep things organised, but can be tedious to enter each folder and add drawings manually. A one click button to add all found drawings under a directory path would be awesome.
Thank you we will add it in the next version.
Utilissima, ma ancora non c'è una alternativa se hai la 2021
Utilissima, ma ancora non c'è una alternativa se hai la 2021...
지원은 언제부터 될까요???
i need to know when the 2021 support is published.
Using it to export pdf,dwg and step files.
Question: Is it possible to export assembly's also in step format?
Hi sorry, not at the moment.
it was really easy to use for my purpose! But since im using Vault, its has some integration issues. But for me its ok. Only thing im missing is the possibility to drag and drop drawings? instead of searching the up. Possible to add that?
Hi Lasse, Thanks for the feedback and the feature request. Its a great idea and we will look into it.
I've just downloaded and used this for the first time and I have to say its a great little app. I'd like to see the addition of a prefix or suffix option based on iProperties i.e. adding in the drawing revision number as a suffix would be a big big plus for me.
Good work and well worth using.
Hi Mike, Thanks for your feedback!
We have machines that consists of several hundred drawings. With this app I cannot go back to manually plotting pdf's. Good app, easy to use.
Thanks for the kind words!
First of all great app! I would like just to add an advice, is it possible to update the drawing before to print/generate pdf and so on? Drawing porter at the moment print the dwg without cheking if the file is updated with the model, then can create some troubles...
Thanks for the good review and feedback. We are working on an option to update the drawing prior to printing.
That would be very helpfull. If drawings are updated before generate pdf. I was not aware of this, and i sended to my client out-dated drawings. So i had to run an update design task with taskmanager. But it takes long.
Other reviewers have done a better job than i can. Suffice to say it's an awesome free app that does just what i need.
Also before you "Find All idw's" or the other thing make sure you do a Rebuild All on whatever assembly your using. Without doing this i have found it may grab older parts no longer associated with the assmbly. This is NOT a criticism lol.
FYI, i use it for creating a drawing pack in one pdf (combine pdfs). Myself and the project manager like being able to flip through all the drawings with one pdf.
Thanks for the kind words. We will be redoing the app soon with loads of new features.
This app really help me to produce drawing pack for my job
Thats great to hear!
Drawing Porter is excellent for Inventor Drawings, would like to see the added ability to perform the same functions on AutoCAD Drawings. Have reached out to support a few times but emails keep getting returned as undeliverable so this is also an attempt to reach support.
Hi Jason, Thank for the great review. You can contact me on ivtools(at)mgfx(dot)co(dot)za
Just saved 4 hours of my life
Thanks for the kind words and good review!
Very useful aplication, it should be a long time ago by default instaled in Inventor. thanks a lot.
Save a lot of time.
I have problem with export to dwg - hatch is not exported?!
Somebody else with same problem in Inventor 2019 Pro?
Update: 05.2021
Please add an option to exclude drawings for "BOM reference parts" from export.
It make a lots of problems.
We have a many subassemblyes which are only BOM"reference" in a given assembly.
When seraching for drawings, Drawing Porter picks up also drawings for referenced parts, which are actually not needed in given assembly.
Drawing porter 2.13 / Inventor 2021.
Thanks in advance.
Please email me a sample drawing and model so I can test on my side.
App works great and saves a lot of time. Two more options would be fantastic if they were integrated:
1. Export other file formats like PARASOLID *.X_T
2. map sheet sizes to various print paper sizes on different printers. Thanks for the great work!
Thanks for your feedback. Your comments are noted.
Saves me for a lot of time
Thanks for your feedback! :)
Hi, I would like to know whether it is possible to have all drawings to a single PDF document ?
Hi thanks for the good rating. Currently thats not an option sorry.
This is by the most useful free I use for Inventor. This is perfect for exporting an assembly drawing or PDF pack to an external manufacturer.
One feature I would like if it wasn't much troublt to add would be to drag and drop files to open, instead of opening a seperate explorer window to navigate to the files you want to add.
Funktioniert einwandfrei und spart eine menge Zeit. Danke
Perfect time saver, but can only pick up drawings from C: so this results pratically useless for users that works with Vault, this options will be available in the future? Vey good work, anyway.
It has really cut down the time spent printing. I am looking into the possibility of an adsk of rfa export option to cut down on our 3D model conersion. We are useing both revit and inventor and this would help quite a bit.
Hi Jeremy, Thanks for the good review. You can email me on ivtools@mgfx.co.za to discuss your requirement a bit further.
Time saver!
Will upload it shortly. In the meantime you can also get it here: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=27102124B84C7E34!3357&authkey=!AFJrJN-BG_VOL5c&ithint=folder%2c
Aplikacja bardzo przyspiesza pracę.
Thanks for the good feedback!
I really love the fact that the App automatically picks up what page size and orientation the idw is even if you do different sizes and orientations at the same time. Dankie Pieter!
Dankie Hendrik! I am glad the tool comes in handy.
This batch app saves hours of my time. Developer, Thank you!!
Good to hear. Thanks for the feedback.
I've just used this on a couple of top level assemblies and it worked flawlessly for printing out a folder of pdf's, ready for combining. My God, this is going to save me so much time - thank you very, very much for your time and effort !
Hi I am glad it can help you. Thanks for your review!
Does exactly what it says it does! Thank you very much!
Its only a pleasure! :)
I love this app! When will Inventor 2018 be supported?
Hi Paul. Thanks for the kind words and review! The new version can be downloaded here for now: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=27102124B84C7E34!3357&authkey=!AFJrJN-BG_VOL5c&ithint=folder%2c I will also publish it to the Autodesk App store later today. Pieter
I used this app and I think it is very well builded. I think it as also a lot of potential that can be implemented. Good job!
Hi Alex, Thanks for the kind words. It's much appreciated. If you have some ideas for new functionality please email them to me. My email address is above in the app details. This offer actually goes to anyone. We are in the process of rewriting the app and would like to hear from the users. Thanks
Works great and after the top service this is also an time saver to keep :)
Thanks for the kind words Pascal!
This program is great, some quirks i found with up-updated drawings, but that was a simple find/solve. Thank you, how can I support you?
Thanks for the kind words and good review. It's much appreciated. We are in the process of rewriting Drawing Porter to include all the features everyone has requested. To support us give us some feedback via email (ivtools@mgfx.co.za) to make the application even better. Cheers!
The only problem for me low resolution icon :) It looks pixelated on darker backgrounds. I will create a svg version of your aps's icon and will convert it ico to replace shortcut's icon.
Hi thanks for the feedback. Yes the whole app is actually a bit dated and we are actually in the process of rewriting it from scratch. The icon will also be updated.
Hi I downloaded Drawing Porter today and it is a very good help for me but there are some things I wonder about. 1. When I write to PDF so will my IDW files closing in Inventor. Is there any setting? I open files from C: 2. Can I open files from the Vault with Drawing Porter I use Inventor/Vault 2017 Best Regards from Lennart
Hi we are in the process of rewriting the app from scratch. We have made note of your suggestions and will incorporate them into the new version.
Hey there, when i was working on previous system (win7) it was working great, but now, on W10 it only showing error (cannot export to step/pdf/dwg). Do you have any idea why is that ?
Hi, I sent you an email. Lets chat about the error offline ok.
After the update the is no more problem with exporting. Yet i have a question. Is there an option to change default STEP filename ? I usually get things such as "<modelname> _ [1]" how can i get rid of the brackets and one ? Big Thanks :)
As John Hygelund in 2014 wrote, I'm missing DXF export too. Most of my manufacturers can't read DWG files but DXF. In 2014 you put this on your list. Any idea when you can include it? Greets Burkhard
Hi is this for exporting sheet metal flat pattern information? If so we have a different product which handles that called DXF Exporter. Let me know ok.
Hi Pieter, thank you for your reply. I need DXF export for some manufacturers, working for my customer. They get the drawings of all parts and assemblies to be manufactured in DXF, as they do not have a DWG reader to extract the geometric data. Normally I never export flat pattern DXF data. Burkhard
This is a great idea and concept and seems to work fairly well. Printing is my issue. Print and Export Options dialog box has no done button...cannot print 11x17 drawings even when Inventor settings are 11x17.
Hi yes we are aware of this issue and will be releasing a new version shortly which will cater for this. A workaround is to set your Windows screen scaling back to the default 100%. The buttons will show up as normal then.
Is there a setting that will allow for all sheets in a multi sheet drawing to be exported?
Very nice and handy program. It does a lot, also closes your active Inventor session! It doesn't create .step files from assembly's. And doesn't give the .step file the right name if it's a derived/mirrored part.
Hi Pim, Thanks for the reply. We appreciate constructive comments like this and we will look into the issue of .step file names. As for not creating step files for the assembly files, that is an intended feature but we will look at adding an option to also include assembly files. Thanks.
We have had some issues with the app not finding existing drawings. This usually occurs for drawings that are fed by iParts/iAssemblies. Any idea why this is happening? Also, we would like the option to extract the part# from the idw and use it to name the printed copy. Any chance of that happening? Thanks for the all of the good work!
Hi Stephen, Thanks for the feedback. We have added this to our list of requests and will look into it.
Great program. Has helped me on my projects when batch exporting all drawings to PDF. I suggest making the "log" of drawings created available as a text/excel file (or atleast possible to copy paste manually into one). This will ease the creation of project "drawing lists".
Hi Christofer, Thanks for the feedback. That feature has already been suggested by another user and we will integrate it soon. Check back for updates in the next few weeks.
great app for free!
The add-in does exactly what it says it does. My only problem is that our file structure is not optimal for the way this add-in searches for files, and it takes upwards of 6 minutes to find 12 drawings (in a specific case)! Other than that, I love it.
Needed a way to batch plot (export) several hundred .idws to .pdf. Worked well for my purposes.
The only option missing on this is the ability to add a suffix or prefix to the file name on the PDFs.
This is almost exactly what I've been looking for. I was able to export both pdf and stp files from a large assembly, although not in the same export. I had to do 2d and 3d in a separate step. I also need to export .dxf rather than .dwg and .igs rather then .stp. Any change those options can be included?? Very nice app! Thank you.
Hi John, Thanks for the review. I have added your request to the list of future improvements.
Print to PDF works fine. But printing to DWG makes Inventor to crash. I'm using Inventor 2015 on Windows 7 win64.
Why doesn't this work for Inventor DWG's as well?
Hi Sam. We are busy with the DWG compatibility so watch this space as it should be done shortly.
When using it on a assembly of about 30 parts, it takes ages gathering all the parts. And then it's still missing some referencing IDW, while they are on my harddrive. I'm using Vault.
Hi Dries, Thanks for the feedback. We are in the process of addressing this issue and to make it more logical for users to understand how Drawing Porter is searching for referencing drawing files.
Had trouble getting app to work, contacted customer support and within a day received a response from Pieter and a zip file which I unzipped and installed. App works Great now!! We batch print alot of assembly and detail drawings for the shop and this app drastically cuts the search time involved. With the export feature, I can save those drawing lists for later printing AND IT'S FREE!! Did I mention...IT"S FREE!!
